Book Review | My Beloved Man is a collection of correspondence between British composer Benjamin Britten and his lifelong romantic and creative partner Peter Pears, a famous British singer. The letters, which begin shortly before WW2 and extend into the 1970s, are a glimpse inside an incredibly tender, emotionally-rich relationship that had to be mostly concealed from the outside world. For Classical music nerds such as myself, the letters are also fascinating for the amount of name-dropping and gossip involving the "who's who" of Classical music in the 20th century. |
