TitleThe Exvangelicals: Loving, Living, and Leaving the White Evangelical Church
AuthorSarah McCammon
LocationOther
RatingSomewhat Recommended
Book ReviewThis book is one woman's story about growing up Evangelical and then leaving the church. Like many books of this type, it is a combination of the modern history of the church's involvement in politics and the challenge of reconciling one's upbringing with one's moral convictions as an adult. I say this is "somewhat recommended" because it is a worthwhile read if you grew up within white Evangelical culture, or already have some background knowledge of the area, but I have found other books that are better for historical insight (Kristen Kobes du Mez's Jesus and John Wayne, for one) or a more engaging combination non-fiction history/memoir (Lance Aksamit's Youth Group).
