TitleThe Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox
AuthorMaggie O'Farrell

Book ReviewThis was an emotional story about a lost life due to the ignorant treatments for mental conditions.

With a signature a man can commit his daughter to an institution and command the family to eliminate the person from their lives.

This was the fate of Esme Lennox and this story unveils the lead up through a narrator who can see the past and the present.

Kitty's granddaughter, Iris, learns about Esme when she is called by the hospital, which is closing, as the responsible next of kin, (Kitty has Alzheimers).

Esme must be released and will no longer be the ward of the state.

The story climaxes with Iris and Esme finally meeting face to face after more than 61 years.

I enjoyed O'Farrell's writing very much and will read the 2020 publication of Hamnet soon.
