Established in 2007 by the Leatherby Libraries, the Community of Readers is the summer reading program for Chapman University. This program is open to everyone who has borrowing privileges at the Leatherby Libraries and a current library account, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Members select books from the Leatherby Libraries and receive prizes upon submission of their first review. The only requirement is that books must be obtained through the Leatherby Libraries.

Title A short history of the printed word
Author Warren Chappell & Robert Bringhurst
Call Number Z124 .C47 1999
Location 2nd Floor Social Sciences
Rating Highly Recommended
Book Review If you are a book worm and are interested in the history of the book in Western culture, I highly recommend this read. It generally starts with the innovation of the Gutenberg press (not invention; presses were invented prior to this printer's creation) and ends with the Digital Revolution at the end of the 20th century. I learned how type (metal font) was set on a press and the complexities of how paper was laid, sewn, folded, and bound. Lot more complicated than it looks or sounds. Enjoyed the read, but if you can't handle reading history books, stay away. ;)
