Book Review |
Fifth Chinese Daughter is largely regarded as the
first Asian American bestseller, which makes it a critical book to study for
anyone interested in Asian American literature or Chinese American history.
While the book is regarded as having been written to appeal to white people, I
still enjoyed this book and found it interesting to learn about Jade's life
growing up in a traditional Chinese American family, breaking out of her
family's expectations, and pursuing her passion for ceramics. The writing
is simple and often reads childlike, so it's a quick read. |
