Book Review | In probably one of the most emotional books I've read, Honoree takes readers on a journey of an American family from the colonial slave trade era to our current time. The main character, Ailey, is raised in the city but spends summers in her family's hometown in a small town in Georgia. What is marketed as a coming of age is really a book about generational trauma and how it affected the women in her family, as well as coming to terms with identity. Beautifully written yet full of agony, The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois will tell you a story you might not be ready to read but should anyway. |
