Book Review | For those seeking a snarky, crime ridden, page turner, this book is
for you. Oyinkan Braithwaite's debut novel follows the story of Korede, a
stringent, romantically overlooked nurse living in the shadow of her beautiful
(and murderous) younger sister, Ayoola. Following Ayoola’s third boyfriend
stabbing in a row, Korede takes it upon herself to cover up her sister’s
incidents and keeps Ayoola under a low profile. It isn’t until Ayoola catches
the eye of Korede’s longtime crush at the hospital that she becomes
conflicted. Allow her sister’s vicious cycle to continue with the handsome
doctor or try to save his life? Braithwaite’s poetic background shines through
in her writing, making the flow of her prose unique. Her snapshot of life in
Lagos was also extremely fascinating and transported me to a corner of the world
completely unfamiliar with the bonus of snarky added context throughout.
Overall, I loved this book! A definite must read! |
