| Book Review | This
is a complete guide to Deborah Harkness' series of 3 books "A
Discovery of Withces," "Shadow of Night, and "The Book of
Life." The main plot involves the main character Diana discovering a
manuscript at her job in the Bodleian library at Oxford. What is kept secret is
that she is a witch, and once she opens the manuscript, other magical beings
sense its awakening and must locate the manuscript to use it's powers to
dominate the other races, which include vampires and daemons. This series
references old manuscripts and texts that exist throughout history. This guide
book let's you review all the historical references mentioned heavily in
the series, which includes famous locations in England and historical events
that took place in the 1500s. I'd recommend reading the series as it's surprisingly a great historical fantasy for anyone who loves libraries and magical realism. And no, the vampires do not sparkle like in Twilight. |
