| Book Review | Thrawn was one of the most popular characters in the old Star Wars Extended Universe, and this new book from Timothy Zahn brings him into the current Disney canon. Set a few years before A New Hope, Thrawn tells the story of alien’s meteoric rise to power within the Empire after being discovered alone on a planet deep in wild space. Thrawn is intelligent, calculating, and a master of the long game, soaking up the new cultures he’s exposed to and outwitting his opponents at every turn. The book also follows in parallel the rise of Arindha Pryce, an ambitious miners’ daughter who snakes her own way up through Imperial ranks. Both Thrawn and Pryce go on to become major antagonists in the animated series Star Wars Rebels, so this book is a fun read for anyone who’s a fan of that show or interested in the reign of the Empire between the prequel and original movie trilogies. |
