Book ReviewI've enjoyed some of Robinson's alternate histories before, and thought it might be interesting to see his take on prehistory, especially since his stories usually have more of a science fiction bent. Unfortunately, this book is a slog. It’s coming-of-age tale about a boy training to be a shaman during the last Ice Age that should have been fascinating due to our pieced-together knowledge about life when Neanderthals and mammoths still walked the earth. However, it’s weighed down by a stereotypical juvenile obsession with sex and stunted character growth until the epilogue. There are better coming-of-age and better Ice Age sagas out there.
