The Remains of the Day

TitleThe Remains of the Day
Author Kazuo Ishiguro
Call Number PR6059.S5 R46 1993
Location 2nd Floor Humanities
Rating Highly Recommended
Book Review I read this in parallel with "Howards End." "The Remains of the Day" is the story of the quintessential, terminally restrained English butler, serving in the final days of England's great houses and elite families. He lives through war and immense societal upheaval, but always as an observer, rather than a participant. He eventually realizes that he has sacrificed his own life on the altar of duty. But is it too late?
