I'll Be Gone in the Dark

Book Review 'I'll Be Gone in the Dark' chronicles Michelle McNamara's intensely personal hunt for the Golden State Killer, a mysterious prowler who terrorized residents throughout California between the 1970s and 80s. The vast amount of research and insight into the numerous cases undertaken by McNamara is difficult to even fathom; the fact that she was able to disseminate it into a readable, chronological piecing together of facts is remarkable. The writing itself reads unlike most true crime fiction- something that sets it apart from other books in the genre. I especially liked how the book mentioned information not necessarily vital to the storytelling - a few topics that come to mind are Frank Lloyd Wright, Eichler, Worldcat, and 23andme. Of course,  investigators have recently incarcerated a suspect believed to be the Golden State Killer, just prior to the release of this book. Definitely worth picking up this summer, but bear in mind that part of its charm lies in the mystery it ends with.
