This
is another alternate universe YA novel set in a dystopian world, but here,
the citizens are divided by the color of their blood: the "Silvers"
have special powers, are considered nobility and the world is ruled by Silver
royalty while the "Reds" are treated like second class citizens,
live in slums and work for the Silvers. When the protagonist (clearly
intended to be a Katniss-esque character) is discovered to have powers only
Silvers should have, it sparks a series of events that begins to change the
world as they know it.
Though parts of the book are compelling and intriguing enough to inspire you to flip the page to find out what happens next, it lacked the complexity of other YA novels (Hunger Games, Divergent, Harry Potter), so I never found myself attached to any of the characters. Because of this, I probably won't be reading the second book in the series, but it was a somewhat entertaining read. |
