Book Review
Many people know and love the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, but the book it is based upon is quite different.  Raoul is the main character in the original telling of the story, and he is so much more melodramatic that it borders on comical; the Phantom is more awkward and demanding but not so darkly romantic; and Christine is just kind of there.  However, for readers who know and like the literature of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, or fans of the musical who want more background on the main characters, this is a good enough read.
