Guy
Delisle has written several graphic novel travelogues similar to this, as an
outsider muddling his way through a fraught political environment (e.g.,
Burma and North Korea). In Jerusalem, he presents his experience as an
atheist in the holy city though many short vignettes that chronicle events
from the mundane (the routine of checkpoints and public transit) to the
profound (settlers displacing Palestinians and the turmoil in Gaza). All
throughout, his self-deprecating humor and his unadorned yet insightful
observations make it a highly entertaining and informative read.
