Book Review
The Paying Guests is the story of Frances Wray and her mother, previously well to-do but saddled with debt left by the late Mr. Wray. Frances is verging on spinsterhood as she continues to live at home to care for her aging mother. In order to help with their debts, they take in two lodgers, or "paying guests"--a married couple named Leonard and Lilian Barber. What follows is a story of class relations, propriety, illicit love affairs, murder, and courtroom drama. This book surprises you at every turn. Hard to put down.
