Book Review |
I feel like this book is two things, and I have very different
opinions on each. On the one hand, it's a satiric dystopia (or a dystopian
satire?) of modern American consumerism and terminal Online-ness. And that part,
while it definitely made me cringe, was well-done. But on the other hand, it is
- or at least tries to be - a love story, per the title, and on that count it
totally failed for me. Reading this at the same time as The Human Stain just
overall gave me a really icky taste in my mouth about the way both
narrators/books talk about women. |
