Scythe

Title Scythe
Author Neil Schusterman
Call Number PS3569.H8645 S397 2016
Location 3rd Floor Education
Rating Recommended
Book Review YA novel about a future where humans have conquered death. To control population, Scythes now "glean" a certain number of individuals per year. Our main characters are apprentice Scythes who are navigating their new powers and realizing the price of immortality on humankind. I was surprised by how much I liked this book and how thought provoking it was on themes of power, corruption, artificial intelligence, responsibility, and mortality. This is the first of a trilogy and I'm already reading book 2.
