Book ReviewFor years now, this has been the only Jane Austen work I hadn't read - not for lack of trying. Austen knew she was writing a character only she could love and that is entirely how I felt! For the first half of the novel, I couldn't stand Emma and cringed at all the havoc she was wrecking on other's lives without even the smallest inclination that she may not be the greatest authority on life. It took me all summer to finally finish this book, but over time Emma and this cast of characters grew on me (except Ms Bates, I still groaned whenever I saw her essay like speech come up on the next page) and could start to find the humor this novel in particular is known for.
