Book ReviewWritten at the end of the 70s, historian Christopher Lasch makes the case that American society is giving rise to a personality type matching that of clinical definitions of pathological narcissism. Lasch does a detailed job of explaining the various ways a “therapeutic sensibility” has shaped contemporary culture. He does rely on psychoanalysis quite a bit, something I’m not terribly familiar with, but overall the book is insightful and his argument still warrants investigation.
